Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan and Director of UNODC discuss further strengthening of cooperation

Bishkek, Sept. 21, 2018. /Kabar/. Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jenish Razakov met on Thursday with Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yury Fedotov in Vienna, Austria, the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Razakov positively assessed the dynamic development and strengthening of the mutually beneficial partnership of Kyrgyzstan and the UNODC. He noted that the Kyrgyz side attaches great importance to deepening cooperation with the UNODC in the fight against illicit drug trafficking, transnational organized crime, international terrorism, reintegration of drug addicts, and prevention and treatment for HIV-infected people. The Vice Prime Minister positively evaluated the ongoing projects in the Kyrgyz Republic, which are implemented by the UNODC Program Office in Kyrgyzstan with the technical support of the UN Regional Office in Central Asia.

Yury Fedotov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is an important partner in the framework of the UNODC regional program for Central Asia, commended the active political commitment to strengthening regional cooperation, including in the field of sustainable development and security.

In addition, he told about some of the main upcoming events related to the Office and invited the Kyrgyz side to take an active part in them.

The sides also discussed issues of further strengthening cooperation and taking coordinated measures to combat crime and terrorism, illicit drug trafficking.
